AM / PM Skin Routine

AWAKENING & MORNING SKIN CHRONO-ROUTINE (7/10 AM)

When you wake up first thing in the morning, your skin will probably feel drier as it will have lost a lot of moisture during the night and, as those regenerative processes that were taking place at night slow down, your skin can become more vulnerable to irritants, allergens and UV radiation. However, many people also notice that their skin looks its best in the morning and a large of part of that is due to all the repair work that has taken place, and the fact that later on in the morning, your body temperature gradually increases. Early morning is the time to take protective measures with your skin. The majority of antioxidant support should be applied in the morning. Antioxidants are designed to decrease free radical damage, which is at its height during the day when our skin is exposed to these environmental aggressors and UV radiation. The assets to be favored: glycerine, allantoin, bisabolol, aloe vera, rose water, vitamin B, vitamin E.

THE DAY SKIN CHRONO-ROUTINE (11/12 AM)

Lunchtime is usually the time when we draw paper and matte powder to fade the shine . Your sebaceous glands start to produce more oil from around midday onwards, peaking at around 3pm, which can cause your skin to appear shinier, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. As other bodily functions fluctuate, such as your blood pressure and hormones, it can also impact your skin, sometimes making blemishes and wrinkles more visible. Your skin will also still be very susceptible to irritation and UV radiation. The best thing you can do for your skin during the day is to make sure it’s protected and still has all the nutrients it needs. The skin barrier may be specifically adjusted to allow penetration. For this reason daily skin care may increase skin regeneration, elasticity, smoothness, and thus temporarily change the skin condition. However, it is necessary to stop the degradation of the skin primary structural constituents, such as collagen, elastin, to prevent the formation of wrinkles. Another integral approach preventing wrinkle formation is the reduction of inflammation by topical or systemic antioxidants which should be used in combination with sunscreens and retinoids to enhance their protective effects. The strategies aimed at preventing photo-aging include sun avoidance, sun protection using sunscreens to block or reduce skin exposure to UV radiation, retinoids in order to inhibit collagenase synthesis and to promote collagen production, and anti-oxidants, particularly in combination, to reduce and neutralize free radicals (FR).

THE AFTERNOON SKIN CHRONO-ROUTINE (1/7 PM)

Sebum production peaks in the afternoon and is why no matter how matte your complexion upon arrival at work. People experience oiliness in the afternoon for multiple reasons. Stress could trigger the oil glands in the skin but dry skin can also be a culprit as skin will attempt to hydrate itself by overstimulating the oil glands. As well as ensuring you are using a good moisturizer, be sure to drink as much water as possible during the day. As the  day progresses, you may notice some changes occurring with your skin. Its level of hydration increases naturally until reaching a peak of sebum at the beginning of the afternoon. At the end of the day, the epidermis naturally loses its vitality and therefore its radiance.

THE EVENING SKIN CHRONO-ROUTINE (8/12 PM)

Your evening skincare arsenal should be separate to your daytime one for multiple reasons. Many ingredients, specifically Vitamin A products (retinoids) are considered sun sensitive and should not be applied when the skin is exposed to UV radiation. Specific ingredients to look for in your night time regime include retinoids (specifically retinol acetate) and peptides designed to stimulate the six constituents of healthy skin, which are Collagen I, III, IV, Fibronectin, Laminin 5 and Hyaluronic Acid. As the evening winds on, your skin will become more focused on entering that regenerating phase again so you may experience a boost in your microcirculation or you may even notice that your pain thresholds rises. Establishing a good skincare routine at night time is just as important as the routines you may have built up in the morning, especially since your skin can become more permeable, meaning that once again allergens and irritants may find it easier to trigger a flare-up.

THE NIGHT SKIN CHRONO-ROUTINE (1/6 AM)

What does your skin get up to at night? During the night cell mitosis, the process by which skin cells rejuvenate and repair your skin through cell vision, accelerates and reaches its peak, usually by midnight. You also have to consider that your body naturally produces more collagen, a key protein for your skin, during this time too and that your brain is working to detox your entire body. However, this night time phase isn’t without its drawbacks. While you sleep, your body won’t be producing as much sebum oil, which can mean your skin loses moisture and becomes drier. This could be why many eczema and psoriasis sufferers seem to find that their symptoms get worse at night. It’s also worth noting too, that your skin can become more prone to inflammation at night as the temperature of your skin rises and your levels of blood cortisol decrease. Stem cells in the epidermis reproduce largely at night, and are responsible for creating new skin cells. The skin loses its water at high speed, its melatonin level reaches its peak. At the same time, the cells begin their work of detoxification thanks to a microcirculation at its maximum, which allows oxygenation and micro-nutrition of the skin. It is also the time of reproduction of the stem cells of the epidermis that will replace the old cells. As the skin is more permeable at night than during the day, and the penetration of certain substances, including cosmetics, may be more efficient at night than during the day. At night, external skin products that assist in damage repair, such as retinol and alpha and beta hydroxy acids. The sleep, it’s the best of care! Avoid overheating the room, even airing 5 minutes before going to bed. We must stop the screens and their blue light deleterious at least 30 minutes before slipping under the sheets. You can also rely on aromatherapy to promote relaxation by soaking a handkerchief a few drops of lavender essential oil or sweet orange. Better, we use a complex specifically prepared for this purpose. Variations were also observed in the skin microcirculation or transepidermal water loss, which is the lowest around noon and the highest around midnight. This last observation suggests the skin may be more permeable at night than during the day, and the penetration of certain substances, including cosmetics, may be more efficient at night than during the day.
